G-Spot presents at Fountain Art Fair

We excited to announce that we will participating in the Fountain Art Fair again this year!
Fountain will take place at the 69th Regiment Armory, an iconic city landmark and site of the legendary 1913 Armory Show. Located on Lexington Avenue and 25th Street, during Armory Arts Weekend, March 9–11, 2012.

This year’s participants in the G-Spot booth include:

Chris Smith -  aka “subtexture” is a Greenpoint, Brooklyn-based artist and designer. He combines found objects and urban grit with a mix of vintage race cars, road trips, rusted metal, weathered wood, and sexy women. website

Karl Kotas -neo-pop, punk, comic abstractionist from Chelsea, Manhattan. Recent work includes a spoof of R. Crumb’s classic “Cheap Thrills,” for the legendary industrial/techno/electro band Lords of Acid.Praga Khan calls it “Unbefuckinglievable”. website

Scott Chasse - Scott’s overtly persistent reuse of Burt Reynolds as the bold black-and-white centerpiece of his work has provoked more than one instance of the question being asked, “does he [Burt] know about this?” The answer is yes, and this seemingly obsessive fan-boy behavior has earned him a range of press from indie art blogs to The New York Post. website

Eija Lindsey - Hot sexy fun bad ass wall floor body cut paste paint wood solder metal file sand spray color beats loud soft fuzzy slick shiny solid structure messy studio.
Born and raised in San Diego, California, she soaked up too much sun riding horses and skateboarding down the boardwalk. Not one to hold still for long, Eija has an active jewelry studio as well as an addiction to cut and paste, and spray paint. website

Mark Richards – has had a camera in his jacket since there was film. He sees things that go together or things that look a certain way and captures them for the permanent record. website

Fountain’s move into the 69th Regiment Armory marks the 99th anniversary of the original 1913 Armory Show, where Marcel Duchamp—who inspired the fair’s moniker with his readymade Fountain—challenged perceptions of modern art. Duchamp’s gutsy spirit resonates today in Fountain Art Fair’s radical attitude and its grassroots, welcoming environment that sets it apart from other fairs.

Fountain Art Fair is an exhibition of avant-garde artwork founded to leverage support for smaller independent galleries to gain access to larger collectors and critics. In addition to cutting-edge art, visitors to the fair can enjoy signature elements such as on-site performance art, a major street art installation, and musical performances that Fountain has become known for integrating into the art fair experience. From presenting just 3 local exhibitors at its first fair in 2006, Fountain has grown to represent over 30 international exhibitors and independent artist projects at its most recent Miami 2011 edition.

Second is ”Pull the Devil’s Tail” presented by the Ugly Art Room
A group show of prints showing in a church basement which houses a vintage proofing press, you’ll be able to print your own print!
Opening Reception: 6-8pm, Saturday, June 18, 2011
Location: Greenpoint Reformed Church, 138 Milton St, Brooklyn NY

To “pull the Devil’s tail” refers to the compact between Faust and the devil – “Faust having taken to Paris – Gutenberg’s first bible to sell were scrutinized by the Church authorities. Since all the pages of each book matched – it was considered the work of the Devil. Faust was run out of town nearly escaping with his life.”

Printing, which takes two people – a puller and a beater (who applies ink to the type) – requires pulling the devil’s tail, the handle which lowers the platen onto the press board.

Guests at the opening will take a turn to pull the Devil’s tail on the antique cast-iron hand press and take home an original Jesus Head print by Christen Schaffer. Plus music by Holler and friends!
